• Forest Service Meeting Outcome

We had a great meeting with the Forest Service team last week.  They now understand what The Treasure Chronicles is all about and they seemed genuinely interested in the project.  We will be working closely with them over the next few weeks to ensure that our permits will be approved.  Fingers crossed, but things look very good right now!  We had a chance to scout out some of our locations and we were very happy to make some

    Seeing the Elephant!

"Seeing the Elephant" was an expression often used in Gold Rush times to sum up the feelings of American pioneers as they headed west on the Overland Trails.  It captured the excitement and anticipation of heading west to the gold fields.  It also sums up the feelings we have about releasing the first episode of The Treasure Chronicles. Due to Easter and Spring Break, we've decided to move our invitation only premier event from April 19th to tentatively Saturday, May 17th, 2014.  Elite members would get to view online on Sunday, May 18th. The public release date will be announced shortly.

  • The Latest and Greatest

Things have been very busy lately.  Lots to cover, so let's get started.

    Crowd Funding Plan

The biggest news is obviously our crowd funding effort. Our time frame has been pushed back due to The Crowd Funder show. We'll be going ahead full force with our plan once we receive a date from The Crowd Funder Show people about when our segment will be aired. We love the idea of The Crowd Funder show because it will allow us  to reach an audience of 3 million people on television and they will allow people to support us with very little cost to them.

The bottom line is that with The Crowd Funder Show, you will be able to be a part of something special as we re-define interactive programming.  We'll also be giving our supporters the opportunity to participate as elite members during our first season.  This means you'll get the chance to drive the story, win rewards and all you'll have to do is buy a gift card - does it get any better than that?

As soon as we get a date, we'll certainly be getting the word out.

We intend to add a segment to our pilot episode that connects our story to the Gold Rush past. This is something we have wanted to do from the beginning, but the budget has a mind of its own.  In the end, we decided that what these flashback scenes add to the story are too great to pass up. We'll be shooting that scene this month.

We are also meeting with the Forest Service today in order to try and secure filming permits in some of our future locations. Wish us luck!

    Tech Stuff

The technical team has wrapped up implementation of the voting and scoring pieces.  We simply need to put a front end on it so the audience can access everything from one place. We want a simply, clean approach.  You will be able to access everything about The Treasure Chronicles (and our future series) from one community web page. Once that page is in place, we're going to open it up to testing with the public.

    Premier Event

We've decided to hold a private screening of the pilot episode of The Treasure Chronicles in old Sacramento on April 19th 2014.  Plans include a performance by the musical group "Off to California" - who specialize in playing music from the California Gold Rush. We'll extend some invitations to our audience so keep an eye out for that.

When are you going to launch?

We've decided that releasing the first episode to the public will be a part of our crowd funding plan. We figure that people should have the chance to see what it is we're actually doing. The voting and scoring won't happen right away though.  If crowd funding is successful, we believe we are still on track to launch this Spring.

    More stuff

We've got more blog posts coming:

    • We'll explain how we are going to link a real treasure hunt to our show.
    • We'll also be starting some activities that will allow you to earn bonus TQ points.
    • We're going to let you in on some plans we have for future shows
    • We're going to explain how our story will actually be beginning before we ever show the first episode.

At Immagix, the audience is always in control, so let us know what you think.

  • Quick Update

We're going to be filming some Gold Rush flashback scenes this month for The Treasure Chronicles pilot episode!  We've got a big meeting with the Forest Service about permits next week and we're going to announce an invitation only private viewing of the pilot episode.

We'll also be providing all of the details on beta testing, crowd funding, and release dates.

Many details to reveal on Monday 3/10/14.

  • Plans and Dates

We're adjusting our time frame to take advantage of our upcoming appearance (and accompanying crowd funding campaign).  We'll be posting an updated schedule this week.

  • Crowd Funder Show

We will be featured on an upcoming episode of this television show! This is an amazing opportunity for us - and for our audience!  Lots more details coming soon.

  • Crowd funding update

Our Kickstarter project has been approved!  However, we've also been selected to appear on The Crowd Funder Show.  We've decided that we'll potentially run two crowd funding campaigns.  It pushes back our launch date a bit, but it will give our audience the chance to contribute and get much more in return!

    We'll keep you posted!

  • Crowd funding Limbo

We are waiting to hear back from Kickstarter to approve our campaign.  They seemed to have some issues with the contest aspect of our show.  Please be aware that we will be having promotions, incentives and special events - not contests. :-)

We have another pretty fun crowd funding option we are also working on, but we can't share the details just yet.  It could be VERY good exposure.

Let's bring truly interactive media and The Treasure Chronicles to life!

  • The Big Update (Part 2)

    Inquisitive minds want to know

Over the past few months we have received a number of questions about Immagix and The Treasure Chronicles.  We thought now would be a good time to answer some of those as directly as possible and to give everyone some insight into what comes next for us (and for you - our audience).

Question 1:  "What exactly is it that you are going to be doing?"  "Is it a contest?"  "Is it a video game?" "How does this all work?" (Yes, those are more than one question but they have the same answer)

To quote Albert Einstein: “If you can't explain it to a six year old, you don't understand it yourself.”
With that in mind, we'll try to distill down the essence of what we're doing during the first season of The Treasure Chronicles.

At the core, we're simply allowing the audience to direct our stories through an online vote.  Watch the show and at the end of the episode you will be given a number of choices.  You will vote for what you think the heroes should do.

Your vote counts, but so does everyone else's.  In fact, which way the story goes for the next episode is decided by the majority vote.

As you vote, you gain points based upon how accurate your decision was in keeping our heroes on the right track.  You'll need those points to potentially win rewards - maybe even the grand prize.

That's it.  Watch, vote, convince others to vote your way, and win (hopefully).  So simple a six year old could understand it.

Question 2:  "This sounds like those Choose Your Own AdventureTM books that I read as a kid.  Are you affiliated with them?"

We have absolutely no connection to the Choose Your Own Adventure people (Though it looks like the Choose Your Own Adventure people sold the rights to Fox so maybe they're planning something similar to what we have in mind).  The original Choose Your Own Adventure stories were fun, but our approach is quite different.

What is it about us that makes us different?

    1. We are a different medium - video.  Video presents some obvious challenges, versus telling an interactive story in a book, but it also presents us with some great opportunities.  Let's face it, when you read the books, you knew you could always "change your mind" if you found out you'd taken a wrong turn.  That won't be the case with our story.  This risk will be much higher.

    2.  We intend to bring the same kind of adventure and fun as those books, but we are aimed at an adult audience.  Our stories have elements of history, survival, intrigue, and adventure.  They might make you think a bit.  There's also the prize aspect of the show and unfortunately, the law in most places won't allow anyone under 18 to win.

    3. You don't actually get to choose you own adventure with us.  You can certainly vote whichever way you like, but the majority rules so you'll have to do your best to convince others that your decision is the right one.

    4.  You will have a chance to get something tangible back from participating - rewards!  We'll certainly have the physical rewards, but we'll also have the rewards that come with being recognized for contributing and for being the best treasure hunter in the series.

Question 3:  "Will you be doing a real scavenger hunt?"

Our stories are fictional.  There are no hidden treasures at the locations so please don't  dig, disturb, trespass, or break any laws searching for something that is not there.

That being said, we have some interesting ideas for connecting the real world with our series.

We have plans to actually introduce geocaching and scavenger hunt events as a means to score bonus TQ points.

Question 4:  "Are you really giving away stuff?"

Yes!  We will be rewarding our top treasure hunters each episode and at the end of the season.  Each episode we'll be giving away something different and there may be more than one prize awarded.

The grand prize for our paying members will only be limited by the number of people who join.  That's right - as people join, the reward grows.  The sky is the limit, so tell all of your friends to join.

Question 5:  "When is this all going to happen?"

January will start off with a bang with some cool new content.  We'll begin with a clues video that might have you wondering if we've lost our minds.  Rest assured that this video holds some vital information that might help you come out on top during our first season.

Next, you'll get a chance to meet our outstanding cast in our up close and personal interview series.  We'll even give you a chance to ask them something.

We'll also launch a crowd funding Kickstarter campaign in February.  Our goal with this campaign is to engage and grow our audience.  Plain and simple, our concept will not work without an engaged audience.  We need to have members who will vote and drive our stories.  We need members to show us that the audience is ready to turn into active participants instead of couch potatoes.

  • The Big Update (Part 1)

As promised, we are at the point where we are ready to reveal our plans for the first season of The Treasure Chronicles.  We've got quite a bit to share with you so we’re actually going to break it into two posts.

    Building an audience

The most important component of our production quite simply is you - the audience.  Our story will literally go nowhere if we do not have audience participation.  Interactive media without the interaction just won't work.  We need excited and engaged treasure hunters helping the characters in our stories.  We also need members.

The concept of creating shows in which the audience participates was driven first and foremost by the thought:  "Wouldn't that be fun?!"  However, we are also realists and are very aware that the cost to create this would is substantial.  You see, we aren't backed by some mega-company with boundless bank accounts nor do we have venture capitalists with bags of money.  The creation of Immagix Media and The Treasure Chronicles has been completely self-funded up until now.

We want to create something that is fun, different, and of high quality.  No matter what kind of prizes we're giving away, if the video sucks or the website doesn't work - people will flee.   With that goal in mind, we've been working to bring together highly talented professionals from both the video production and the technical development worlds.

All of these moving parts require highly skilled people and equipment to bring it to life.  Alas, this does not come cheaply.  We’ve got our team together and we’ve got all of our plans in place.  Now we just need you.

Our next big step is crowd funding.

If you aren’t familiar with the concept, it allows people to put an idea in front of people to determine whether or not they believe the idea is worth their time - and money.

We prefer to think of our Kickstarter campaign as a way for us to build members with no risk to you.  We understand that we don’t have a long history creating blockbuster hits.  We’ve tried to be open with you about our plans and goals.  We’re not looking for handouts, we’re looking for members.  Each of our Kickstarter backers will become elite treasure hunters with all of the benefits that becoming a member entails:  Ad free viewing, enhanced voting rights, the chance to win prizes each episode, special access to behind the scenes footage and to our cast, and best important of all – the chance to win the unlimited grand prize.

We felt like crowd funding would be a great way for us to gauge people's interest.  You can choose to back us on Kickstarter.  If we make our goal, then you are guaranteed that we will complete the first season of The Treasure Chronicles.  If not, then you'll have no obligation to become a member and you can keep your money.

Our plan is to launch a Kickstarter campaign during the first week of January.  The specific date will become clearer once we've gone through Kickstarter’s approval process, but we anticipate that it will be on the 4th of February.

     Filming Status

As you may know from our past blog posts, we've had some challenges around our film permits.  The good news is that we've finally been able to get the National Forest Service to evaluate our project!   They had a meeting today, the 22nd of January, and we should have some idea of the status of our request very soon.

We do have alternate plans to use private property if our permit is not approved, but we would REALLY like to be able to use the actual locations.  They are such amazing spots and they will contribute immensely to our story in ways that will become evident when you see the show.

We intend to begin shooting on location again in February.

    Technical Status

We've completed a major milestone this week.  All of the pieces and parts to allow you to vote, score, and communicate with our shows has been completed.  We still need to put together the web page that our audience will access and then we need to Beta test it.

Our plan with testing is to enlist the aid of our existing audience.  We'll be presenting a brief animated series about the adventurer/fortune seeker "Missouri Smith".  Think of him as the low budget version of Indiana Jones.  You'll follow the adventures of Missouri and hopefully guide him to success.  It should be an interesting adventure and we'll be rewarding our beta testers.

     Spanish Speaking Audience

We've been a bit surprised (and very pleased) to see tremendous interest and support from the Spanish speaking community (especially Mexico).  We've decided that we'll be releasing a separate video with Spanish subtitles.  We're very pleased that our first season will be highlighting some of the history surrounding Mexican involvement in the California Gold Rush.

Geocaching and other real world events

In the spirit of banishing couch potatoes and creating a community of interactive audience members, we have plans to introduce a connection to actual events in the "real world".  What does this mean?  First, we would be sponsoring a nationwide geocaching event in which geocachers in the United States would potentially earn bonus TQ points for everyone in their region.  Sorry, international viewers, but initially our geocaching event would only be in the United States, but you would be able to get bonus points.

Second,  along the same lines as the geocaching event, we have plans for a scavenger/treasure hunt (in the United States).  This would also give our audience members another opportunity for additional bonus TQ points.

We'll be revealing much more about these events as we proceed, but we think it will be a fantastic way to promote the interactive nature of our show.

    Immagix Calendar

We've covered quite a bit and you're probably wondering when this is all going to happen?  We have a schedule for you.  We'll also be posting our calendar online at ‎

It will be updated as our dates become more solid.  We'll also be putting dates for other events and activities on our online calendar and we'll be making announcements in social media and on our website.

We realize it is an aggressive schedule, but we've already assembled our team and we're excited and ready to go!

    Here are some key dates:

     Clue Video released  - 1/24/2014

Kickstarter campaign begins - Tuesday 2/4/2014
